Join us for an immersive cultural experience celebrating Sudanese food, art, and storytelling—while connecting our local community to a global cause that truly matters.
This year, our Interact Club wanted our international service project to be more than a requirement—we wanted it to matter.
We started with a question: How does violent conflict affect children?
As we explored regions like Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan, we realized the answer isn’t just about politics. It’s about access to clean water, education, safety, and the ability for families to rebuild their lives.
Sudan stood out—not only for its urgent need, but for the opportunity to make a real impact.
Through our research, we discovered a Rotary Global Grant supporting a project to deepen a well, install a pump, and build a sustainable aquaponics system near an Internally Displaced Persons camp and medical clinic led by Dr. Jacob Atem. This life-changing work is being carried out by Downtown Gainesville Rotary Club in partnership with Juba Airport Rotary Club.
We knew we wanted to help tell this story—not from a distance, but as students learning what global citizenship truly looks like.
In collaboration with Nanna’s Sudanese Cuisine, this festival brings that learning to life through culture, community, and connection.
Experience:
• Authentic Sudanese cuisine
• Cultural art and storytelling
• Live moments from our student documentary in progress
Come be part of something meaningful—where culture connects us, and awareness leads to action.
Guiding (and occasionally sidetracking) the journey is the ever-distracted Hare—yes, that Hare—who still can’t quite manage to beat the Tortoise. Along the way, he encounters familiar fairytale friends, each facing their own challenges. With curiosity, chaos, and a surprising amount of heart, the Hare helps them pause, reflect, and find their way forward.
Blending humor, imagination, and meaningful storytelling, this charming production reminds us that even in the most tangled situations, growth begins when we get to the root of the problem.
