A Cornerstone of the Community

In 1996, Aurora Theatre was originally in a converted hardware store in the suburbs of Atlanta. Since then, Aurora Theatre has been a cornerstone of the community and has had a positive economic impact through the arts by supporting local businesses and drawing people to the square. Recognizing the intrinsic value Aurora Theatre brings to the city, the City of Lawrenceville has invested in the arts community and arts management. The City of Lawrenceville recognized the impact, and Aurora Theatre joined the city’s revitalization plans. In May of 2007, the city purchased a 100-year-old church in the heart of downtown Lawrenceville and transformed the space into a $7.5 million theatre complex for Aurora Theatre.
Aurora Theatre is a multi-faceted non-profit arts organization and the resident company and manager of the Lawrenceville Arts Center. In partnership with the city, LAC is managed by Aurora Theatre. Aurora Theatre produces and presents theatrical productions, musicals, concerts, children’s programs, and much more. Aurora Theatre also hosts Atlanta’s only professional Spanish language theatre, Teatro Aurora.
Aurora Theatre is Georgia’s second-largest production theatre. Aurora Theatre has garnered numerous accolades highlighted by achievements that include a 2016 Governor’s Award for the Arts & Humanities, winner of five 2019 Suzi Bass Awards, Creative Loafing’s “2010 Best Theatre Company”, Gwinnett Chamber’s 2015 IMPACT Regional Business Award for Hospitality, and many more.
